A different kind of lab: no pipettes and centrifuges, but shelves with food and beverages and a checkout counter.

The Ö-project team, led by Dominic Lemken, invited CRC 1454 colleagues to explore the University of Bonn’s lab supermarket “Super.Uni.Markt”, which opened in January.

Featuring more than 600 food and beverage products, the facility recreates a realistic shopping environment in which researchers can observe and analyze how customers make purchasing decisions.

As part of SFB 1454, the project team uses this setting to develop and test behavioral strategies to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, investigating how targeted interventions can promote healthier choices, what drives behavior, and how approaches can be tailored to different groups.
